SCOUTS AND GUIDES.

j{ .VISING OF FINANCE. llepresentatives of the Girl Guide organisation and Boy Scout troop committees met again last evening to hear reports regarding the recommendations oi a previous general meeting for holding a combined "Paddy's" market m November. Mr 11. G. Mills, of the 'JLe Awe Awe Scouts, presided. Misses Hands and L. Beiinect were elected joint secretaries.

All Guide compaiiß.s and the executive were well represented, associated with tnem being delegations from Central, Te Awe-, \\ est End, Terrace End. All Saints' and St. Paul’s Scout committees.

stating that lie understood .that proposals from the last meeting had been under consideration by the committees. the chairman asited for reports from the delegates. It \va,s soon evident that there was ouposition from Scout representatives to an effort, solely to raise funds for the central executives, the considered opinion being that troops had enough to do to finance their own particular .organisations. The Takaro Scout committee wrote stating that they were unable to participate owing to the effort clashing with activities in progress in support of their own troop iunu,s; instead, tiiey would donate the sum of one guinea. All Saints? troop representatives said that, whilst fully in sympathy with the movement, owing to most of their committee being business people and because the market was to be held on a Saturday, it would be impossible for them to co-operate. The committee would, however, hold a special function and devote the proceeds to the executive fundfi. Tlie West End troop, through Air A. C. McLean, said that because of the slight benefits which would accrue to their troop, and because they did not feel disposed to call upon their supporters more than they were doing at present, they would not join in the movement. The Northern Committee was not represented.

St. Faul’s, Terrace End and Central agreed to join in. For tlie Te Awe Awe Troop, the chairman said that, though desirous of joining in with the movement, he could not support it if it was solely to help the central executives. He was ot the opinion that each unit participating should have its own stall, taking all the profit therefrom, less a proportion of the expenses, for its own funds. He would, of course, agree to a slight levy for executive purposes. Guide Commissioner Eliott said this was in line with her original suggestion at tlie last meeting. Speaking for the Scout executive, Commissioner Stubbs said that as it appeared that it was the wish of the meeting that funds raised should go direct to committees, he could readily agree. The Scout executive, though urgently in need of money, could carry on. With the Guides the position was different, as they had executive, demands annually, which must bo met, and which were a big drain on their resources. The chairman said it seemed that much of the opposition was coming from the Scout organisations, who, as tlie discussion had shown, were not going to work for an executive which was not functioning. He asked for a motion.

Following a further discussion, a motion was passed that each unit having a stall shall take the whole of the proceeds from such stall, less;a deduction of the sliaro of expenses incurred in the hire of the hall and. advertising. Messrs Mills and F. Carpenter were appointed an advertising committee. It was decided to ask the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) to open the market. An invitation is also to be extended to Mr and Mrs J. A. Nasb to be present. Tlie central executives are to be responsible for tlie tearoom arrangements, and to have the proceeds from this. Again voicing the opinion, that executive funds were urgently required, for proper organisation of the Scout movement, Scoutmaster Callis moved that . a recommendation go forward from tlie meeting to the next meeting of the Scout central executive, “that all troops be called together, with the object of securing a discussion regarding tlie activities of the central executive, and reorganisation of that l»dy. The. meeting agreed.
