ST. PATRICK’S BALL.

RUGBY TROPHIES PRESENTED. Trophies won by teams in the Manawatu Rugby Union’s competition during tlie season were presented at the annual ball of the St. Patrick’s Football Club, held in the De Luxe Hall, last evening. Tlie function was exceptionally enjoyable, and was attended by a gay crowd of dancers. The ball was attractively decorated, club emblems being prominent. First-class music was provided by a professional orchestra.

Among those present were Messrs A. M. Onglcy, president of the Manawatu ltugby Union; H. R. Crawford, a member of the union; B. Skoglund, acting-secretary, and J. J. O’Shea, president of St. Patrick’s Club. The duties of M.C. were efficiently discharged by the club secretary (Mr E. G. Stone). The ladies’ committee,which supervised the supper arrangements, . was as follows: —Mesdames J. Stone, O’Brien, Tottman, J. Delany, Diggins, Bourke, Misses Howarth, McICewen, Smith, and Gibbs; the men’s committee consisting of Messrs J. J. O’Shea, J. Delany, B. Howard, T. E. Davidson, P. Ferguson, T. Madgwick, T. McKewcn, and 0. Murphy. Regret was expressed by Mr Ongley, before presenting the trophies, that Rugby football locally had not progressed in public support since his previous term on the Rugby Council. After watching play for twelve months he said lie had been at a loss to know why, because at least three teams had played football throughout the season worthy of any senior city football club. Although the game had nob been supported throughout the year as it deserved. Mr. Ongley hoped there would he a change for the better in the coming season. He expressed the thanks on behalf of the union to the Sat. Patrick’s Football Club for its courtesy in making it possible for the trophies to to be presented at its annual ball. Trophies were then handed to club representatives as follow Senior championship. Hankin Shield: Feilding Old Boys. 'Junior championship: Broome Shield, Old Boys (P.N.). Third grade championship; Gibbons Shield, Old Boys (P.N.). Fifth grade championship: Evans Cup,. Palmerston North High School. Sixth grade championship: Baker Cup, Palmerston North High School. Senior seven-a-side: Thonipson-Payne Cup, Feilding Old Bovs. Third grade seven-a-side: Dr Hunter Will Cup: Feilding Old Boys. Club championship: Abraham Clip, Old Boys (P.N.). Seniors sud-den-death competition: Goldfinch and Cousins Cup, Old Boys (P.N.). Junior sudden-death competition: Rodgers Cup, United. Jubilee Cup: Feilding.
