OROUA DOWNS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Sept. 24.

The last of a series of tournaments was held in the hall on ’1 hursday evening, but owing to the prevalence of colds throughout the district the _ attendance was not as large as usual. The supper arrangements wero in tho hands of tho members of the local Women’s Institute which has organised the scries. Music for the dance which followed was played by Mrs H. Olliver. The prize-winners of the tourney wore: —Ladies, Mrs Alvin Bird and Miss "D. Christensen equal for first, but Airs Bird won tho cut; Miss Christensen 2; Airs A. Hobbs consolation after cutting with Mrs F. W. Merchant; mens section, Messrs W. Spicor, A. _ Bird, J. A. Conlan, and E. Christensen tied for ( first, and Mr Conlan won the cut; Mr Spicer 2; Mr A. Albury consolation. The points prize for the scries, donated by Mr J. Funncll, was won by Mrs A. Albury. The scores for the golf cup in the ladies section are as follow: —Mrs A. T. Raikes Mrs A. T. Nichols 63, Mrs J. P. Connell 73, Mrs A. H. Hobbs 79. On Sunday the Shannon Golf Club paid an all day visit to Oroua Downs for a return match, tho weather being perfect. At the conclusion of afternoon refreshments Mr A. T. Nichols (captain ot the Oroua Downs team) welcomed tho Shannon players and referred to the very pleasant day spent. Mr Mead (president of the Shannon Club) replied. The results of flic day’s play are as follow:—Singles, Orouu Downs won by 7 games to 4; ioursomes, Oroua Downs 3, Shannon 2, one game boixig halved. Spicer, who has resided at Oroya Downs for the past eight years, on Monduy evening, it being well attended by a representative gathering. Mr Spicor is to take up his residence at Longburn. At a suitable juncture Mr J. Funncll, on behalf of the lesiuenle of Oroua Downs, made Mr Spicer a presentation while others were also made by Mr E. Christensen for whom Mr Spicer worked, and by Mr Christenson on behalf of tho Rifle Club, ihe gilts will all be useful to Mr Spicer in his new pursuit. Mr Spicer replied suitably after musical honours had been accorded him. The dance music was played by Airs W. Scott, Misses L. Fromm, S. Grammar, and iVir W. ioerntsen. The evening was brought 10 a close at midnight.
