STUPIDITY NOT CRIMINAL.
DECLARATION IN COURT. Received September 26, 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 24. In the adjourned charge of passing worthless cheques against Lady Esther Makgill, aged 30, accused was acquitted. The Common Sergeant, summing up, said:—“lt is not criminal to be reckless, foolish, and stupid. You may think that such is the snobbery of the age that people like to have titled customers on their books and that some banks allow a pe»-son like Lady Makgill to deal with her account in a manner not permitted to others.”
