WINTER SPORTS.
SKI-ING AT RANGIWAHIA. Tlie popularity of Rangiwahia as a ski-ing ground is steadily growing and, with snow conditions excellent, splendid conditions were offering for the sports meeting at the week-end. The detailed results were as under: Ladies’ downhill (novice). —Miss E. Morton 1, Miss L, Morton 2. Junior Indies. —Miss H. McGregor 1. Miss A. McGregor 2, Miss E. Morton 3. Slalom (junior).—-Miss A. McGregor 1, Miss H. McGregor 2, Miss E. Morton 3. Men’s downhill (novice). —J. Ponnev (Feikling) 1, A. IT. Anderson (Feilding) 2, T. R. Graham 3. Downhill (junior).— J. Penney (Feilding) ], G. Clark 2, A. Hayward (Feilding) 8. Roth these contests were run in heats, and a novice of this year, J. Penney, succeeded in the junior event over members who have had an extra year’s ski-ing. The second heat of the junior saw one spectacular crash, F. D. Heise, when in tire lend, falling when rounding a flag and bringing down four of the other five runners. Downhill (senior). —A. Hayward (Feilding) 1, C. McGregor 2, G. Clark 3. In the second heat of the senior both Winchcombe and Heise fell while leading and this put them out of the final, although Winchcombe won the heat, but had shifted his edgings on his skis in the crash. Mon’s slalom (novice). —A. Hayward (Feilding) 1, A. Campbell (Feilding) 2, D. Milner (Feilding) 3. Junior. —D. Say well 1, A, Hayward (Feilding) 2, F. Heise 3. Senior. —A. G, Winchcombe (Taihape) 1, C. McGregor 2, A. Hayward and F. Heise 3. In the junior slalom Saywell’s time was much better than tlie rest and in the senior Winchcombe easily halved the time taken by the next best competitor.
