EKETAHUNA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) EKETAHUNA, Sept. 29. Miss A. M. Berp is the guest of Mrs H. Dumbleton, Parkville. Mr Horace Little, of the Post Office staff, hae received notice of his promotion to the position of postmaster at Ohakunc. Mr J. Meade and Mr E. French, formerly residents here, but now of Blastings, arc visitors to the town. The friends of Mrs H. Dumbleton will be pleased to hear of her recovery from her recent illness. A very pleasant little party was given Mrs F. Hooper, Stanley Street, by her daughters on the occasion of her birthday at the week-end when her personal friends were entertained at afternoon tea. Mrs Hooper was the recipient of several handsome presents and many good wishes. Mr M. Fafeita has recovered from his recent accident.

The final of the Bush primary schools Rugby football competition was played at Ekutahuna on Saturday between Mangatainoka and Eketahuna, the game resulting in a win for the former, the 6coro being 14—3. Mangatainoka are now the holders of the championship shield presented by the Eketahuna Football Club.

During the latter part of the week the Methodist Church held a miss-on in connection with the youth movement. On Thursday evening, Rev. H. Benny addressed the congregation and explained the object of the mission. On Friday, Jtev. Mr Robert, of Pahiatua, delivered an interesting and instructive addresn to those present, taking for hie subject, “What Shall I Do ?” On Sunday, Mr A. C. Bates, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Maetcrton, conducted both the morning and evening services, addressing the young folk, and bringing to a close what the church leaders believe to be a successful effort in connection with the youth movement. The annual combined Bible class tea was held in the schoolroom on. Sunday afternoon and attended by a large gathering and presided over by Rev. Mr Bonny. The attendance at the weekly euchre party, held in the Tricity last night in aid of the Catholic Church funds, was the largest on record. The hostess was Miss Dillon, assisted by Mesdames C. Connor and Morrison and Messrs C. and F. P. Dillon. Mieses O’Donnell and O’Regan had charge of the tables. The usual splendid home-made supper was served. After many fast and exciting games the winners were: —Ladies, Mrs F. Monaghan; men, Mr J. Ryan. Two interesting competitions resuited in a win for Mr J. A. Taylor and Mr E. Ryan respectively.
