TRADE WITH SWITZERLAND.
CONSUL-GENERAL’S PROTEST. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. Exception to statements made by the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ and the New Zealand Representatives’ Association concerning the trade balance between New Zealand and Switzerland is taken by Dr. A. C. Blau, of Auckland, Consul-General for Switzerland, in a statement which lie has sent to the Mayor of Wellington. Figures had been quoted that, while New Zealand bought £24,875 worth of goods from Switzerland in six months this year, Switzerland bought only £49 worth from New Zealand. Dr. Blau explains that the figures are totally misleading, as Switzerland has to import through other countries, a large portion of her trade being done through London, from which market Swiss buyers take a large amount of New Zealand produce. Figures kept in the case of Australia showed that the balance was heavily in favour of the latter and it was thought that the New Zealand figures, when ascertained, would give identical results.
