FEILDING STOCK SALE.

ACTIVE MARKET. ALL PRICES RISE. The market was very sound in all sections of the sale at Eeilding yesterday, prices in general being quite satisfactory to vendors. All grades of fat sheep were up despite a very good entry, the estimated rise being 2s' per head. Top prices for store sheep wore a little below the peak of the previous week, but the average was slightly better and a total clearance was made of a moderately heavy entry. A rise of up to £1 10s per head for heifers and £1 lor cows was shown in the dairy ring, where some good stock came forward, and there was again a very firm demand for fat cattle. Heifer beef was very prime, and prices were well up to the high rates of the last sale. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.

Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report good yardings in all sections at yesterday’s Fcilding sale. Tho store sheep entry was comprised practically of ewe and wether hoggets and for these a good sale resulted, the quality on the whole not being up to last week’s standard; consequently values were slightly easier than was the case at last week’s fixture. Just odd pens of ewes with lambs at foot were offered, those meeting with good competition. An average yarding of fat sheep was submitted, the demand for these being firm on last week’s values. Heavy pennings of dairy cows and heifers came to hand, tile market in this section being strong with an excellent clearance at auction, values in practically all cases being higher than vendors’ expectations. Beef and store dairybred cattle, as also did run bred cattle, met a buoyant market, values in practically, all cases being above vendors’ expectations of values. Dalgety and Coy.. Ltd., report on the Feilding sale: —There was a heavier entry of sheep, dairy stock and run cattle, with a fair entry of beef. All classes of fat sheep wore actively competed for, the quality for the average being good. Outside interests were operating and these helped to firm the sale by 6d to Is on previous rates. Store sheep comprised hoggets, of mixed quality. There were fewer outstanding lines penned, but the heavier entry attracted attention from the Taranaki and Main Trunk districts, and competition was well sustained. The sale can be described as a thoroughly sound one, fully up to

recent sales. The yarding, although the heaviest that has been .seen for some time, was with fow exceptions disposod of under the hammer. One particularly attractive line of wether hoggets topped the market at 23s Bd. Tho beef sale was a good one considering the quality which was offered, tho market showing no quotable, change. Run cattle were forward in heavier numbers, included in which were several lines of attractive yearling steers, which commanded much attention. There was practically a total clearance in this section. Tho dairy offering was slightly heavier than last week’s entry and some better .quality heifers wore included. For these there was a brighter tone. CANTERBURY MARKETS.

POTATOES FIRMER. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 13. In the last two days, because of a very much increased flow of orders from Auckland, there has been a marked improvement in the market for prompt Whites and Dakotas. Whites have firmed to £7 Ids to £7 15s a ton, cn trucks, and Dakotas are worth about £B. The market closed to-day to a feeling of excitement after a long spell of exceedingly dull trading. Reports from Auckland earlier in the week indicated that the demand there was better and that prices bad risen; and the publication later of the Government estimate of a short crop probably had an added firming effect. Tlio Waima'rino got away on Wednesday with 2400 sacks from Timaru and 2700 from Lyttelton, a total of 5100, of which a proportion was seed. Potatoes are still hard to buy -in tho country, offerings from farmers being few and- in small lots. The rest of the produce markets are very dull indeed, practically no business passing in any line.
