TE ARAKURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) . TE ARAKURA, Sept. 12. On Tuesday evening a lantern slide lecture was given in the local hall by Mr Hickcnbottom of the United Sudan Mis* sion. Mr Hickenbottom not only showed slides and spoke on the missionary work, but gave the audience a number of interesting details regarding the country and its people. A lecture on the Douglas Credit System was given last evening in the hall by Colonel Closcy. The lecturer addressed an appreciative although not very large audience. Mr J. J. liumc was elected to the chair. A number of questions were asked and were satisfactorily answered by the Colonel. It was decided to form a study circlo in the district and a very cordial welcome is extended to everyone in the district. Mr Hume, at tho close of the meeting, expressed appreciation of the very instructive and enlightening address given by Colonel Closey. A ladies’ meeting will be held later, the subject to be, “Women s position in the new economics.” Mr \V. E. Thomas returned homo this morning after a short visit to Auckland and Hamilton.
