(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, Sept. 13.

The eagerly anticipated jubileo ball of tha Huia Football Club eventuated on Thursday evening. Tho hall was filled to capacity, patrons coining from a wide area, testifying to tho popularity of the function. Coloured streamers and balloons completely transformed the hall, whilst an abundance of native ferns and foliage made a striking background for the beautiful dresses worn by the ladies. Mr T. Donaldson was responsible for the decorative scheme, Mrs Donaldson adding a charming touch by supplying tho Lima footballers and members of tho committee with buttonholes of violets. A varied programme of excellent dance music was supplied by a professional orchestra, extras being played by Mrs Mora and Messrs Rodgers and Larkins. The ladies’ committee, comprising Mcsdamcs Donaldson, Hill, Shaw, Thompson, and H. Pearce, was responsible for the tasty supper, which, added greatly to the success of the evening. A special feature was the presentation of the MeKelvio Shield,' which was exhibited in a conspicuous space on the main stage wall. Mr H. Simmons, in extending a welcome, apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr A. N. Morcom, president of the To Hawaii Sub-Union, and also for Mr C. Gimblctt, a promising young player. Mr Simmoncls said he tound himself in tho unique position, as president, of having to present the shield to his own chib. He congratulated them on their .outstanding play in winning the shield for the fourth time. Of tho thirteen matches contested, one defeat, two draws, and ten wins made a notablo achievement. Musical honours were accorded tho club and the coveted shield was handed to the captain, Mr S. Pearce. Rousing cheers greeted the latter who, replying on behalf cf his club, thanked Mr Simmons for his complimentary remarks and at the same time expressed appreciation for the support and encouragement given them at all times, both on and off the field. He thanked especially tho ladies and all who had contributed to die success of the ball, and spoke of the pleasure enjoyed in the keen, straightforward games against tho opposing teams during the season. Brooke-Taylor and Mr C. Marchant, statue waltz; Mrs Noble and Mr K. Cotton, Monte Carlo waltz; Miss I). Sargisson and Mr E. Donaldson, lucky Gay Gordons; and Miss A. Tennant and partner, lucky spot waltz. Miss Raynor, a visitor from Napier,_ is spending a holiday with Miss E. Sintmonds. Mrs Mora, accompanied by her mother and two children, has left for Paraparauiriu for two weeks’ holiday. The monthly meeting, of the School Committee was held on Monday evening, Messrs J. A. Shaw (chairman;, E. Russell (secretary), D. J Moore, J. Duncan, and Miss Thompson (headmistress) being present. The chairman, on behalf of Mr Carkeek, tendered an apology for his absence through illness, at the same time expressing sympathy with him, and the committee's best wishes for a speedy recovery. Miss Thompson reported that the roll number was 64. including four new pupils admitted at the commencement ’of the term. It was decided to have the fences repaired and several trees cut down, being considered dangerous for the safety of the children.
