AOKAUTERE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) AOKAUTERE, Sept. 13. Tiierc was a good attendance at the social evening organised by the local branch of the Methodist Church, and held in the hall on Monday last. The cifort was in aid of the Home Mission fund, and the following items were contributed :—Recitation, Mr Scotter; songs, Joan, Earl, and John Andrews; recitation, Mrs L. Hastings; vocal duet, Mrs Lock and Mr L. Bycroft; violin solo, Mr F. Coslett. An interesting lecture on home mission work was given by Mr Fordyce. The Rifle Club held their annual ladies’ night on Tuesday when there was a good attendance of ladies. A competition was arranged between two teams, the president’s team and the captain’s, resulting in a win for the former. The ladies’ competition was taken on the team shoot and resulted in a win for Mrs L. Craven, with 68 out of 70, with Mrs A. Brill second (66 out of 70), and the consolation prize going to Mrs Burling. The. team scores were as follow President’s team: J. Smith 68, A. Brill 66, J. Woods 66, L. Craven 67, J. Atkinson 67, T. Horgan 65, W. Pinfold 64 W. Anderson 51, Mrs L. Hastings 64, Mrs W. Pinfold 58, Miss M. Anderson 57, Miss E. Anderson 62, Miss K. Baird 56; total, 811. Captain’s team: L. Hastings 69, N Hoperoft 66, A. Hopcroft 66, M. Kristensen 67, 11. Brill 65, W. R. Hopcroft 65, S Dudfiold 49, W. Anderson, ]unr., 66, Mrs A. Brill 66, Mrs L. Craven 68, Mrs Burling 33, Miss M. Burling 34,_ Miss I. Anderson 57; total 771. A competition for a trophy donated by Mr J. Hastings, resulted in a shoot-off between A. Hopcroft, L. Craven, and S. Dudficld, m which A. Hopcroft proved t.ho winner. Supper was served by the club members, after which dancing was carried on until a late hour. Mrs Hastings, on behalf of the ladies, thanked the club for the entertainment.
