ACTRESS’S DEATH.
AMERICAN SENSATION. Received September 13, 1 p.m. NEW YORK, Sept. 12. Another sensational murder or suicide, involving some of the most prominent persons in the public eye, occurred last night, it being revealed this morning that Evelyn Hoey, aged 25, a noted actress, whose acclaim in many succesful musical shows was sensational, was found dead with a bullet hole in the head in a farm house in a lonely section of rural Pennsylvania, where she had been a guest for a week of Mr H. H. Rogers, junr., son of the late Colonel Rogers, the oil millionaire, and a grandson of the man who, with Mr J. D. Rockefeller, founded the Standard Oil Company. Visitors said they were compelled to disarm Rogers, who seized the same revolver with which the girl was shot, as they feared he might try to kill himself. He was crying that he loved the girl and that she was his sweetheart. The house was in complete disorder and there apparently had been much drinking.
The authorities are holding Rogers and a movie cameraman, William Kelley, who was also a guest at the house, for further questioning.
