SALE OF POISONS
NEW DOMINION ACT. “BENEFICIAL SAFEGUARDS.” DUNEDIN, Sept. 11. “The new safeguards in the legislation of 1935 for dealing with the sale of poisons are generally regarded as beneficial,” said a leading chemist yesterday. “The Act has been badly needed in New Zealand and it is greatly to the public’s advantage,” he added. The regulations under the Act will not be gazetted for another few months and on these regulations depends the success or otherwise of the Poisons Act. One feature in the regulations will bo that manufacturers and proprietors of any preparation containing poison will be forced to declare that fact'and to name the quantity on the package. At the present time preparations are being widely sold by storekeepers and others who are not aware that they contain any poisons whatever. The present Act copies to some extent the Poisons Act in force in Britain during the last 20 years. It is interesting to note, however, that Britain has just completed an entirely new Poisons Act which goes very much further than the recent New Zealand Act.
