MARTON, Sept. 11. The Marton Borough Council mot this week, the Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) presiding. The treasurer’s report showed revenue for the month to have been £771 18s 3d, the principal items being rates. £163 3s sd; gas, etc., £270 18s 6d; Town Hall, £Bl 12s 6d; water fees and connections £77 16s 6d; heavy traffic licenses, £79 9s 6d. During the month building permits were issued for two new buildings totalling £BIO, and one _ outbuilding
£B. Following an inspection of water- | courses and drains in the borough by I the overseer, a report on which was ] before the meeting, the council decided that property-owners concerned should effect clearances as soon as possible. The meeting also had before it a letter from Mr A. E. S. Crozier drawing attention to the flooding of A\ r illiam Street, suggesting that the main culvert is too small to take floodwater, and asking the council to take steps to prevent a recurrence of the flooding. The Mayor suggested that I the AVilliam Street culvert could be rej placed with a larger concrete one, after i April 1, next year. The council’s commitments for this year were heavy, ' and it was not likely there would be i
another big flood between now and next financial year. The estimated cost would be £75 to £BO. This proposal was adopted. It was reported that the larger watercourses in the borough had been used as rubbish deposits. The council regarded this seriously, and decided to take steps against persons offending in this respect.
