BUTTER EXPORT

MR C. S. FOSTER TO RETIRE. WEDDEL CUP WINNER. PAEROA, Sept. 11. Within a few day's the dairy industry of the Auckland Province will lose one of its outstanding figures by. the retirement of Mr C. S. Foster, manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s Ngatea butter factory. It is doubtful if any other man in the industry has won so many prizes and certainly no man lias won the Weddel Cup so often. Butter from all the factories exporting through the Auckland grading store is judged for the Weddel Cup competition and the trophy is awarded for the highest average grade for the year’s output. Under the management of Mr Foster the Ngatea factory won the cup outright and continued to will the trophy which was donated to replace the original one. In the years when he did not win the cup he was either the runner-up or came third. Having been in the industry lor 40 years, Mr Foster lias decided to retire and to live in Auckland, where lie can be near his daughters. He will be succeeded by Mr Charles Burrows, who for the past seven years has been the manager of the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company’s factory at Ngongotaha, Rotorua. On Saturday evening Mr Foster was the guest of the staff of the factory at a farewell function and was presented with a silver inkstand and a silver pen. Replying, Mr Foster said that the hardest part in connection with leaving was the parting with the members of the staff. Many of them had been with him all the 11 years he had been at Ngatea, and in the 40 years lie had been in the industry he had never had such a fine body of men to work with. To them was due the success which the factory had had in the competitions.
