STANDARD OF FRUIT.
GROWERS SEEK HIGH GRADE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. The Fruitgrowers’ Conference carried a Marlborough remit expressing the view that as the quantity of good grade fruit was increasing, fruit below a reasonable standard (should not he sold for human consumption. Remits were also carried asking for a more stringent inspection of fruit and more care in the handling of soft fruits. A motion was carried approving of the setting up of a committee, representative of the Federation, the Fruit Board, and the Horticultural Division in association with the Executive Commission of Agriculture, in order to give effect, where possible and desirable, to the findings of the conference and other matters affecting the industry, especially the local marketing of fruit. Local marketing control was not to be a matter for the committee.
