LABOUR ON MUSSOLINI. 1 ‘IRRESPONSIBLE FANATIGY’ (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 13, 1.20 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 12. Declaring that Sir Samuel Hoare’s speech commanded overwiieiming support in Britain including the labour electorate, Aar H. Morrison, the Labour leader, in a speech at Fulham, claimed that the pressure of Labour progressive opinion had finally compelled tne Government to affirm its loyalty to tiie Covenant. Signor Mussolini now knows tiie world is against him. “I appeal to the Italians with whom we have no quarrel to realise that they are being led into wicked and disastrous action by an irresponsible fanatic with bloodthirsty tendencies,” said Air Morrison. ‘'Signor Mussolini, pointing scornfully to Abyssinia's alleged inhumanities and incompetence, is surely tile joke of the century. Who was gunty of political assassination and castor oil exploits Who is still toi'turiing political prisoners f Who denies tne Italians the right to speak lieeiy on public aff airs '< it is tiie same Mussolini who is posing as a saint compared with the Emperor Haile belassie. 1 beg the Italians, if war comes, to rise and destroy him and his brutal rascist regime.”
PROTECTING THE COVENANT.
OPINION AGAINST ITALY
Received September 13, 5.35 a.m. GENEV A, sept. 12
The Associated Press says:—Following Sir Samuel lloare’s example of frankness, the Dutchman, Ai. Dc Gractt, the Swede, Ai. Sandler, and the Belgian, Ai. Van Zeeland, came out with statements showing unmistakably how tne opinion against Italy is crystallising at Geneva, aud how anxious tne sinaiier nations are to ensure tne protection of the Covenant. Holland’s position as a colonial Power caused special interest in M. Dc Graeff’s declaration that she would fulfil integrally all the obligations of tiie Covenant. All three were applauded. AI. Sandler went further tnan the others, suggesting that the Council had allowed tne uispute to develop over-far before taking comprehensive action.
