TROTTING CLUB.

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES. The report covering the activities of the 1934-35 season, to be presented by the president (Mr W. Mouldey) at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Trotting Club reads, inter alia: The club was fortunate in obtaining an extra permit through the Hawke’s Bay Trotting Club, and a two days’ trotting meeting was held on the Awapuni racecourse on March 30 and April 13, and with the fine weather experienced the meeting was very well patronised and was most successful from every point of view. Tlie club made a very substantial profit. This only goes to show that trotting is becoming more popular in the district, and if the club is successful in obtaining the extra permits handed in by the Hawke’s Bay Trotting Club in our favour, trotting will go ahead rapidly in the Manawatu. That great pacer Harold Logan competed in the 15 mile handicaps and his efforts from a long distance back were much appreciated by the public. The totalisator turnover was very good on each day, and the gate takings and other privileges showed an increase on last year’s figures. The broadcasting of the racing and the past performances of the Eorses given before each race by Mr Craig, tlie well-known Auckland trotting writer, was again much appreciated by tlie public. The club’s contribution to the Government by way of taxes (including dividend and stakes taxes) was £1176 8s 3d, but the club is very graterui for the rebate received from the Government of 1> per cent, off the totalisator duty. A training track was laid down by the dub during the year on Mr Farland’s property in Fitzroy Street and is serving a useful purpose for the local trainers.

It is anticipated that the club will ! have extra permits this year and the committee look forward with confidence ;to a successful season. It is with 1 regret that we have to record the death of Mr G. D. Atkinson, who was a member of the club and a very keen trotting enthusiast, and also Mr C. E. , Goosman, of Hamilton, who was the i club’s handicapper for many years past and whoso services were much appreciated by the committee. I On behalf of the committee I desire to thank all officials for the very able and enthusiastic manner in which they assisted the club and carried out their various duties, and also the Manawatu Racing Club and staff for the great assistance given.
