FAIR, BUT CLOUDY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 27. A depression is crossing the South Island to-day. while an anti-cyclone still covers the Tasman Sea and extends on to the North Island. Forecast: Strong westerly winds, of gale force at places, backing later to south-westerly. ’Weather : Mainly fair, but clouding over at times. Seas, rather rough. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon :—3ft 9in.
