YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Quiet trading conditions ruled on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, the turnover recorded boing the smallest for several weeks. The markets had a steady tone witli an active demand, but sellers showed little inclination to make concessions. Keen interest was shown in Government loans, which were generally firm, price variations being few and small. The per cent stock, 1939-43 sold at 1105. 'there were sellers of 5 per cent, “dis sented’’ stock, 1937, at £lO2 15s, and of 5 2 per cents, at £lOl 10s and £lO3 15s An improved inquiry for bank shares found buyers in for Adelaide at £5 15s. National of Now Zealand gained another 3d in busintfss at 73s 3d. Union eased Is 6d to £9 Bs, sellers £9 12s 6d. New Zealand wero 2d up at 51s 4d, but othor ssltowed no change. In the financial and pastoral section, Dalgety firmed to £8 ss, New Zealand Insurance improved to 66s 3d. Moat Ireczing issues were in good demand. Canterbury preference advanced to 16 Is 6d, Gear to 21s 8d and Wellington Export, preference, to 20s. Most timber issues were quoted at firm rates. Breweries were dull. Miscellaneous industrial and trading issues were less active, there being a preponderance of selling offers. British Tobacco were firm at 40s 9d, sellers 41s 3d. Broken Hill Proprietary were done at 66s 9d and more were wanted at that price. Claude Neon (N.Z.) had buyers at 42s 6d, sellers holding for 45s 6d. Mining shares were quiet. Blaclcwater moved up to 33s 6d and Waihi to 36s 6d. Mount Morgan eased 38s 9d, sellers 39s 9d and Loloma to 82s, sellers 89s. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
