Owing to a misapprehension a mistako wart made in the report of the meeting of (he Hall Committee held last week, when it was stated that plans were discussed for liquidating the debt on the building. Actually, there is no debt on tho building. The plans under discussion were for raising money to make some necessary improvements to the hall. There was a large attendance at tho August meeting of the Women’s Institute held in the hall on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs G. Wilde was in the chair. Tho room presented a cheery appearance with a bright tire and masses of spring flowers at both ends of the room. The gardening circle were responsible for the arrangements of tho meeting, and are to be congratulated upon the manner in which Ihcse were carried out. A request from the Flail Committee that the institute provide the supper at tho forthcoming anniversary ball was very favourably received, it being understood that no charge be made for admittance to institute members. It was decided that each member bring lAdoz. small cakes and one plate of sandwiches. After the business of the meeting was concluded Mrs Irwin gave an interesting report upon her visit to the annual conference of the Women's Institutes hold recently in Auckland, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Gillanders. of Palmerston North, gave an able demonstration on making posies and wreaths, which was much enjoyed. She also judged the competition which was for the best vase of spring (lowers, and her discussion upon the points of the first, second, and third entry was meet helpful to competitors. At the conclusion of tho demonstration Airs Jackson proposed a vote of thanks to Airs Gillanders which was carried with acclamation. 'File number of entries for the competition wart very gratifying. It resulted:— Mrs G. Larson 1. Miss D. Irwin 2, and Airs G. Wilde 3. Business was bri-k at tho bring and buy stall for the federation’s funds. This , was in tho care of Airs Hansen and Alirts R. Ellery. Tane Road members were responsible for items on the social programme. Then followed afternoon tea. Later, a competition, jumbled names of flowers, concluded tho afternoon. The September meeting will take tho form of a flower show within tho institute, the schedule for which may be had from members of the gardening circle, Afesdamcs Irwin, Aitchison, Jackson, and Cookslev, or from Airs Wilde. The hostesses will be Alcsdamcs Croad, Alve, Henderson, and Alivj L. Youle was received with j regret and on behalf of her fellow mem- i bers the president presented her with a small cream jug, wishing her success in j her future home at Levin.

The school bartketball team played Tokomaru on the latter’s court last Tuesday and were beaten by 25 goals to 8. The season for the school team will close with a match agjiiust Rangiotn on Thursday next. The winter term which concludes on Friday has from every of view been a successful cne. without any great epidemic of colds and other ailments usually prevalent in »inter, and now teachers and children alike are looking forward to the welcome break which holidays always afford.
