JERSEY BREEDERS

" HOROWHENUA CLUB. Tiie annual meeting of the Horowhenua Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club was held recently, Mr Alan. W. Horn presiding. In reviewing the activities of the club during the past year, the chairman pointed out that the working had resulted in a small loss, which he attributed largely to the reduction made two years ago in the membership sub-

scription. Catering expenses in connection with field days had also been slightly heavier. Mr Horn remarked that the two field days had proved most successful, the club being favoured in each case by good weather, a large attendance and highly interesting .lectures. Together with the secretary (Mr H. J. Lancaster), stated the chairman, he had attended meetings at Woodville and at Palmerston North, together with members of other affiliated bodies,- for the making of arrangements for the winter and spring sales, the former of which had now passed and had been one of the most successful of its kind. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—President, Mr Alan S. Horn ; vice-presidents, Messrs I. D. Parsons and W. A. Smith ; secretary, Mr H. J. Lancaster; hon. auditor' Mr W. Smaill; committee, Messrs R. W. Evans, J. H. Taylor. R. L. Horn, L. H. Port, B. R. Robinson, A. Hardham and A. Hudson.

It was decided that, as in previous years, the amount of £1 Is be donated to the Horowhenua Boys’ and Girls’ ( Agricultural Club. There was some discussion as to I whether, with a view to curtailing the I loss upon the year’s working, it might not be advisable to decrease the amount paid towards the prize-money of the A. and P. Association. It was, however, felt that this would be against the interests of the industry, and it was suggested that steps be taken with a view to decreasing the cost of catering in connection with field days.
