APITI, July 17,

Airs T. 11. Purnell, of Murton Block, hns been on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs A. Prujean were visitors to Wellington during race week. Mr W. Watson, of Pio l’io, accompanied by Aliss Joyce Watson, is at present tho guest of Mr and Airs W. 11. Watson. Airs J. ■Floyd, of Henderson, is spending a holiday with her parents, Air and Alls J. Buckman. Mr and Airs W. Digby aro on holiduy in Auckland. Air and Airs E. 11. Cummerfield and Airs J. Kearney aro homo again after a short motor tour. Miss Ruyo llitchman loft last week on a holiday to Napier. Mr and Airs F. Scott aro Wellington visitors to Apiti whore they aro tho guests of Air and Mrs W. AlcKay. Air W. McKay presided over a very poor attendance at the annual meeting of the Apiti branch of tho Farmers’ Union. Several apologies for absence wore read. Tliei'o has not been much activity in the local branch during tho past year. Tho secretary (Air A. Viles) reported that tho finances were in a sound condition. It was decided to call a further meeting when tho o'.oetion of officers will tnko place. A suggestion was made that this branch provide a trophy for a root growing competition and thus revive interest in an event which in past years proved popular in this district. ’1 his matter will be fully discussed at the next meeting. The junior Rugby match on Saturday in the Alitchell Shield competition was played on the Apiti Domain between (lie local team and Rung! wa hi a. For the first time this season, tho Apiti juniors suftered defeat. The home team wero without the services of several of their regular players, and the Rangiwahia team were far superior on the day’s piny. Tries for the Visitors wore scored by Wells (2), Truman, and Burke. L. Thompson converted two tries and Carey kicked a field goal, ranking the final score liangiwahia 20, Apiti nil. Air J. Strnhan was the referee. The senior team journeyed to Waituna and were also without several of their usual players. After an interesting game they were beaten by 10 points to 5. Air N Short, of Waituna, refereed. Tho home of Mr E. Signal was the scene of a jolly party on Saturday evening when Air and Airs R. AlcNae entertained a number of their friends. The sitting room presented a blight appearance, with bowls of camellias as decorations, while a largo log fire added a cheerful note. A room had been cleared for dancing and tho gramophone was utilised to supply the music, while extras were played on an accordion by Messrs 11. Schmidt and \v • Cawood. Card tables were set out in a. corner of the sitting room and were made frill uso of my non-dancers. After supper had been served, Air W. McKay, on behalf of all present, thanked Air Signal and Mr and Airs McNac for their hospitality, and stated that everyone had spent a most enjoyable evening. The speaker conveyed to Air and Mrs AlcNae every best wish for llicir future welfare and happiness. Mi AlcNae briefly replied and the party terminated nt midnight with the singing o “ Auld Lang Syne.”
