POHANGINA VALLEY

(From Our Own Correspondent.) DOHANGINA VALLEY, July 18. Favoured with ideal weather conditions tho annual dance and presentation of trophies of the Pohangina Valley Defence Rifle Club was held on Tuesday night in the Katimai Hall. The hall was most attractive with its doeora'ions of flowers and foliage, with coloured paper streamers. Tho members of the club worked incessantly to keep tho enjoyment in full swing, while in the mutter of supper arrangements they wero willingly helped by the Indies of tho district. Novelty dunces were held, the Monte Carlo being won by Miss I. Fenwick and Mr F. Roberts and the snot waltz by Mr mid Mrs S. Hanlon. An orchestra provided tho music, while Miss Linklutcr contributed extras. Mr J. D. Balmor, president of tho club, presented the trophies, and prior to doing this spoke of tho loss tho club bad sustained during the last year in tho passing of their patron, Mr E. Akers. Mr Akers had held this position for tho last 27 years and had shown groat interest in tho club and given assistance in many ways. His death was deeply regretted and Mr Balmor called for one minute’s silence ns a mark of esteem. Mr Akers's ncice, Miss Akers, is tho club’s present patron. Mr Balmor also snoko of the good work dono during tho past nino or ten years by the secretary (Mr C. Spclmati), whoso resignation the club had received witJi regret. On behalf of his follow members, Mr Spclman was presented with a substantial cheque and was accorded musical honours.
