FOOLISH HOAX.
CAIvE SENT TO GIRL. SUSPICION OF POISONING. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 17. The elements of another poisoning mystery surrounded the posting to a South Taieri girl recently of a packet of cake. This girl, who had been reading of recent similar cases, became alarmed, sending the cake to Dunedin for analysis and informing the police. An analysis showed that the cake was quite 'pure and the police traced the parcel back to the recipient’s sister, who had been playing a practical joke, knowing her susceptibility. However, the hoax has cost the country some money in analyst’s fees and tilt despatch of a detective.
