Mr N. T. Lambourne, Director of Education, with Mrs Lambourne, left for Sydney en route to England today. They will return via the United States and Canada in February next. Mr W. R. Stowe, F.R.0.5., M.R.C.P., of Fulham Hospital, London, who is at present on a short visit to New Zealand, is staying with his parents, Dr and Mrs R. AV. Stowe, Linton Street. Rev. C. S. Matthews, of Palmerston North, who arrived in London on April 19 for a stay of twelve months, recently attended the annual Baptist meetings at Plymouth then going on to Leicester and the Channel Islands. Messrs Jos. Batchelar (president), J. F. Knight (vice-president) and hi. E. Kissling (orgamsing-secretary), of the Manawatu and Wesi Coast A. and P. Association, visited 'Wellington today for the Royal Agricultural Society conference. Colonel F. Symon, C.M..G., D.S.O. (Director of Artillery), LieutenantColonel G. Lyon (O.C. Second Field Artillery Brigade) and Major R. S. Park (O.C. Central Command, 11.N.Z.A.) arrived in Palmerston North from AA'ellington to-day to attend the annual inspection parade of the 7th Battery.

North, are held by their friends and parishioners, both within aiid without the Presbyterian congregation of Havelock, was given when a gathering which filled the Town Board Hall to overflowing met to celebrate the completion of 25 years’ service by Mr A\ : augh as pastor of St. Columbas.

The death occurred yesterday of Dr John James Edgar, aged 65, reports a Napier message. Educated at Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities, and at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, Dr Edgar had a brilliant early career. He settled at Napier in 1901, and entered into a partnership with the late Dr Delisle. Later he continued on his own account. He did excellent work during the war, and in the earthquake as a surgeon at the Napier Hospital. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Maxine Edgar, of Napier, and a brother, Mr AA r . Edgar, Daventry, England.

Sir Thepphilus John Massie Metcalfe and Lady Metcalfe, of “Winkworth Hill,” Hascombe, Godaiming, England, are visitors to New Zealand. Sir Theophilus Metcalfe, who was born in 1866, is the seventh baronet of a line created in 1802. He was educated at Eton and the Royal Agricultural College, and entering the Civil Service served at the Andaman Islands and in British Burma. In 1925 he married Eva Vivyenne Celia Wright, daughter of Mr W. M. Wright, of Hataitai, Wellington. Sir Theo. and Lady Metcalfe have been staying in Hastings, but intend leaving on a trip to Honolulu, Japan and Ceylon at the end of next week.

“I cannot conclude my report without reference to the great loss suetained by the industry in the passing of Mr Dynes Fulton,” said Mr G. H. Bell, Oakura, Taranaki, in his presidential report presented at the annual meeting of the Dominion Group Herd Testing Federation in Palmerston North to-day. “It is but two years since Mr Fulton retired from the presidency of this federation, a position held by him since its inception in 1926. His guidance during those seven years is undoubtedly reflected in the sound position of the movement today. The memory of Mr Fulton will continue to inspire our work, and his name will be indelibly inscribed in the history of the group herd testing movement of this country.” Prior to the opening of the business of the meeting a motion of svmpathy with the relatives of Mr Fulton was carried.
