MRS A. F..JOBLIN. A well-known and highly respected resident of Tnihape in the person of Mrs A. F. Joblin passed away yesterday morning at the age of 70 years. Mrs Joblin, who was born at Akaroa in 1864, was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. G. Watkins. Her father was Mayor of Akaroa at thp time Sir George Grey visited that town. In 1894 she married Mr Arthur John Joblin at Akaroa and moved to Little River, where her husband was engaged in farming pursuits for four years. Mr and Mrs Joblin then came to the North Island and settled at Stratford, but were there only for a year before moving to Hunterville and thence to Pohonui where they remained for several years before taking up their residence in Taihapc in 1911. Mrs Joblin was for many years a member of the Anglican Church Ladies’ Guild and was a prominent worker at church bazaars and other functions held in aid of St. Margaret’s Church. She also served on the Plunket Society and on the ladies’ committee that assisted with the organisation of the Peace Ball in Tnihape in 1919—a function that was attended by over 700 persons.
Mrs Joblin also took a leading part in the organisation of the first children’s fancy dress ball to be held in Tnihape. During the eight years her husband was Mayor of Taihape she had many duties to perform as Mayoress. In recent years, however, she was compelled, owing to failing health, to lead a retired life, and was no longer able to take an active part in those spheres of activity in which she had previously figured. Deceased leaves three sons.—Messrs A. E. It. Joblin (Palmerston North), A. C. Joblin (Taihape), and H. K. Joblin (Hastings)—and three daughters—Misses D. and C. Joblin (Taihape), and L.
