HORNABROOK BEATS SILK. Per Press Association. MASTER! ON, June 3. Playing excellent golf, J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton), cxcelVd himself to win the Wairarapa championship from the title-holder B. M. Silk (Wanaganui), who had beaten Hornabrook in the last two years. The Masterton player never let up once, being 1 up at the turn, and clinching the match at the loth, 4 up and 3 to play. Hornabrook outplayed Silk, whose driving lacked direction, while his approaches were below standard. Silk also missed some easy putts which would have made all the difference to his game. Hornabook, on the other hand, was brilliant with his putting, while his driving was consistently good throughout. Hornabrook also distinguished himself in the semi-final against T. H. Horton, whom lie 1 beat 2 up at the 19th by sinking a 30-foot putt for an eagle 3—two under bogey for the hole. In the other semi-final Silk beat C. Campbell Heard, a Masterton player, 2 and i. SOUTH CANTERBURY-TITLE. Per Press Association. TIMARU, June 3.‘ The South Canterbury amateur golf championship was played for at Highfield to-day and was won by J. L. Mackay, of Timaru, 74—75—149. E. A. Scott, of Timaru, 80—72—152, was runner-up.
