BUILDING IN AUCKLAND.

STEADY RATE MAINTAINED. AUCKLAND, June 2. Building permits issued by 7 the City Council in May represented a total value of £46,609, tho largest monthly aggregate since the beginning of the year, and greater than the figure for May in either of the two preceding years. The total for the first live months of the y r ear, £170,149, is lower by £72,992 than the figure at May 31, 1934, but the aggregate for the corresponding period last year was swollen by tlie inclusion of permits for two large building contracts, notably, that for the new block at tlie Mater Misericordiae Hospital. The monthly totals this year have shown a progressive increase, and represent a definite increase of activity in small building.
