DRINKING FOUNTAIN.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The council must certainly be congratulated on its wonderful improvements to our city during the last few years. Wo notice the welcome improvement of such excellent seating accommodation now being erected at the Square bus stand, opposite the Post Office. I notice in to-night’s “Standard” that members of the council were to-day out viewing the city, probably trying to find more improvements. I myself, and many others, can assure you that our worthy councillors have overlooked one very important item, and that is a drinking fountain. Fancy a city like Palmerston North, and nowhere to get a drink of water. I and many others have sat on the seats under the trees in our Square, and watched children, and also elderly people, practically standing on their heads, to eup a few handfuls of water from the gardeners’ hose tap, which is about six inches from the ground. Should our council spend a few pounds and erect even one drinking fountain, T am sure it would be greatly appreciated not only by children, but also by our worthy citizens. —I am, etc., J PROGRESS. Palmerston North, Alay 25, 1935.
