IMPROVED TONE IN BUTTER.

CHEESE MARKET QUIET

There was an improvement in demand, and consequent firming of (lie London butter market at llio end of last week, the market closing firm and active at 79; to 81s for New Zealand salted, a rise oiftlic week of 2s to 3s a ewt. Australian and Continental butters also firmed in price, particularly Danish', which closed at 97s to 98s for spot, against 89s a week ago. Both New Zealand and Danish retail prices remain unchanged at lOd and Is a lb, respectively. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 1800 tons, compared with 1967 tons for the previous week, and 1700 tons a year ago. Australian deliveries amounted to 1950 tons, against 18*11 tons a year ago. New Zealand butter in store now totals 7880 tons, including 1666 tons ex the Rangitnno and Kumara, compared with 7095 tons for the previous week, and 10.791 tons a year ago Australian stored butter amounts'to 8300 lons, against 7874 tons for the previous week, and 6936 tons a year London advices to the Dairy Boatij state that 4480 casks of butter wore shipped from the Continent to New York last week.
