IN GREAT BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 12. A decrease of 39,910 in the number of unemployed and an increase of 28,000 in the number employed are reported by the Ministry of Labour in its monthly return for February. In comparison with a year ago there were 136,000 more insured persons in employment and 32,456 fewer persons registered as unemployed. LLOYD GEORGE’S SCHEME. MEMORANDUM PREPARED. (British Official Wireless.) Received March 14, 11.37 a.m. RUGBY, March 13. The memorandum containing the scheme for tackling the unemployment question in Britain, which Mr Lloyd George lias been invited to submit to Cabinet, is nearly complete and is expected to be in the hands of Ministers at the end of the week. It is understood the memorandum will probably be made public in due course after" the Government lias had the opportunity to express an opinion on its proposals. WORK IN SCOTLAND. THE DISTRESSED AREAS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 12. It was announced by the Secretary of State for Scotland (Sir Godfrey Collins) in the House of Commons that the Commissioner for Special Areas in Scotland had been already authorised to spend approximately £106,000 on schemes of work in distressed districts. Other schemes involving a large increase in the Scottish Commissionei s exuenditure were under active consideration. Sir Godfrey Collins also revealed that the Scottish Department of Agriculture had received a free gift from a prominent resident of Dundee, Mr Mathews, of a 188-acre farm, as w'ell as a Trust Fund amounting to about £30,000, and other gifts, making a total of over £50,000 for the purposes of settling on the land unemployed men from Dundee.
