(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU, Alarch 11

The fifth annual meeting of the .Tokomaru Women’s Institute was held in the hall, Mrs McGill presiding over a fair attendance. A report on the year’s activities and the treasurer’s statement were read and approved. Mrs Schaw and Mrs McGill were appointed _ delegates for the federation council meeting to be held in Palmerston North in April. Mrs Schaw as group rally delegate gave a report on the rally held at Koputaroa in February. Mrs Lynch, of Linton, a federation member, presided over the election of president and committee. No ballot was necessary for the committee as tho nominations did not exceed the number required. Following is the committee elected: —President, Mrs. A. Boote; secretary, Mrs L. Jamieson; treasurer, Mrs A. Burt; general committee, Mesdaines A. McGill, C. Voss, Misses A. Mason, M. Sehwass, Mesdaines S. Lloyd and It. Atkinson. Miss C. Jamieson was appointed press steward and Mrs McGill and Mrs N. Thompson librarians. The winner of the points prize for tho year was Mrs C. Voss, with 31 points, Mrs 11. Parr being second with 26, and Mrs A. Burt third with 21. Afternoon tea was servod by the hostesses, Mrs Corlett and Mrs Atkinson. Mrs Lynch charmed all with her singing. Later, Mrs Atkinson played for community singing. The meeting terminated with the singing of the National Anthem. , The Gospel Hall Sunday school held their annual picnic at tho horseshoe bend last Saturday. The weather was ideal for picnicking and all present spent an enjoyable time. Quite a large number of parents and pupils attended. Lunch and afternoon tea were provided. Races and games were indulged in. Following are the results of the races:—Tiny tots, Dorrie Wilton 1, Ruth Stevenson 2. Girls’ races: Doreon Penticost 1, Noelino Tarr 2; Pat Corlett 1, Audrey Smith 2; Malise Atkinson 1. Ins Hanson 2. Mixed race: Dot Todd 1, Ernest Waghorn 2. Single ladies’ race: Miss L. Waghorn 1, Miss E. Corlett 2. Married ladies’ raco: Mrs V. Howetson 1, Mrs N. Gunning 2. Married men’s race: V. Howetson 1, H. Hanson 2. Boys’ wheelbarrow raco: R. Waghorn and E. Waghorn 1, B. Wilton and N. Prier 2; girls, D. I odd and I. Wilton 1, J. Rankin and J. Corlett 2. Mrs Wills, of Ohura, who has boen visiting her niece, Mrs McGill, has returned homo. Mies K. Sherlock, of Palmerston North, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs W. Sherlock.
