CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The council of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon, Mr A. J. Graham presiding. Others present were Messrs H. B. Free, D. Black, F. G. Opie, H. E. Kissling, T. L. Seator, J. 11. Stevens, W. H. Brown, H. Cunningham®, R. L. C. Aitchison, M. H. Oram, R. H. Spencer, S. Rawle, 11. E. Edmunds, F. A. Cousins, A. Clark, K. Henderson, M. N. Wallace, A. P. Stuart, and W. H. Cadwallader. Advice was received from tbe Palmerston North City Council that it had received tlie chamber’s report concerning tbe present condition of the railway crossings in the city, and it had been referred to the engineer, the matter to be considered by the works committee of tbe council. Tbe Automobile Association intimated that it had decided to support tlie chamber’s representali ons.—R eceived. Following upon the resolution recently passed by the chamber supporting the action of the Associated Chambers’ executive in requesting a reduction on inward shipping freight, tlie Associated Chambers wrote conveying appreciation, but added that very little could be done at tlie present juncture, as tlie matter was in the hands of the Imperial Shipping Committee in London. Representations on behalf of tho constituent Chambers had been made to this body, from which word was now awaited. —Received, From the British Trade Commissioner an invitation was received to attend the sixth International Congress for Scientific Management to he held in England from July 15 to July 20 next.—Received.
