MILSON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, March 11. Tho monthly meeting of. the Milson School Committee was held this evening. Present: Messrs F. G. Murphy (chairman), A. S. Franklyn (secretary), Richmond, McAvoy and Campbell. The headmaster (Mr M. R. McEwen) reported as follows: The school roll is at present 104, with an average attendance of 96. The swimming sports were held in tho Terrace End baths on Thursday, the races being very keenly contested. The senior championship was won by Lois MclCenzio (girls) and Jack Robbie (boys). Over 20 pupils have gained tho 50 yards certificate this year, while ono pupil has swum 1000 yards and this may be bettered before the end of tho term. The school sports will lo held on Ihursday, if convenient. Correspondence was received from tho Education Board regarding tho Easter vacation; tho school will close from April 19 to April 28. Tho committee decided to make arrangements to have tho tanks emptied and cleaned during tho holidays; also to secure a now basketball post. An application is to be mado to tho Education Board for a cupboard for the infant room. Tho matter of installing a radio set in tho school canto up for discussion, and it was decided to obtain particulars from the Education Board as to tho regulations governing tho installation of wireless sets in schools, the subject to be reviewed again at a later date, when it is hoped the committee will bo in a position to purchase a set. Accounts amounting to 18s wore passed for payment. The monthly meeting of tho executive committee of the Milson Progressive Association was held in tho hall during the week-end. Present: Messrs G. M. Richmond (chairman), J. G. Gilbert (secretary), T. Cumming, J. Johnson ancl S. Thompson. It was decided to again institute the weekly Saturday night social evenings for tho benefit of tho residents, to be held on similar lines to the evenings previously conducted during the winter months. Accounts amounting to 6s 8d were passed for payment. The Milson branch of St. Peter's Church Sunday School combined with Terrace End for their annual picnic at the Awapuni racecourse on Saturday, a large number of children making the trip in buses from Milson. Tho weather was ideal fer a picnic and an enjoyable day was - spent. Mr \V. Brown, of Carlisle Streot, who has been relieving tho stationmastcr at Foxton (Mr W. Robson) has returned to Milson.
