CRIPPLED CHILDREN.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —It is to be regretted that our Mayor cannot see lit to fall in line with the' rest of the Dominion and open a fund to augment the national appeal. What is the reason? Why leave his job to other people who, he admits, nave been “thinking” about the matter for “several months.” Lord Nuffield arrived in the country during the afternoon, road of the need, and gave £50,000 the same evening. No “thinking” for several months; a complete stranger acts. Mr and Mrs Wilson did’t “think” for several months, Dr. Pickerel! arrives from Australia and acts! What about it, Mr Mayor? or, failing him, I suggest it is up to you, Mr Editor! It is useless pottering about trying to run a local fund-. imagine the “thinking” it involves. No, the effort must be a. national one, run by men used to getting things done. Ihe thanks of the nation are duo to the Associated Rotary Clubs for reminding us of the need for the fund, but 1 would suggest to the members of our local club that their efforts would be of more local benefit to all our children if they were to concentrate their energies upon the improvement of Mam Street’s surroundings which are an eyesore to our city.—i am, etc.. CITIZEN. _ Palmerston North, March 11. 1535.
