POHANGINA VALLEY.

(From Our Own Correspcndcnt.) POHANGINA, Alarch 12.

Pohangina was in sporting mood on Saturday, practically everyone enjoying a holiday in sonic form or another. Tho i members of the cricket tram paid a visit to Colyton, where a friendly match was played. Colyton proved much too strong, however, and defeated the visitors, but the Colyton cricketers proved, as always, excellent hosts and tho Pohangina players returned home after having spent a very pleasant day. The children of the school showed better results for their outing, returning home from Feiiding, where they competed in the public schools sports, the proud possessors once again of the Collins Shield, which they now hold for the third year in succession. Credit is due to the children and their teacher (Airs J. Stuart) for hard training has been done during past weeks. Tho childden’s parents and friends accompanied them to Feiiding and took charge of the lunch and afternoon tea arrangements and, the weather being excellent for picnicking, a tine day was spent at Kowliai Park. Members of the Awaiiou Tennis Club visited Pohangina on Saturday and played a friendly match against the local players. Pohangina heat the visitors by n substantial margin. The Pohangina ladies served afternoon tea. On Sunday the annual harvest thanksgiving services were held at the Methodist Church. There was a good assortment of vegetables, brought along in spite of the dry season, and the church was beautifully decorated bv a profusion of flowers. Kev. G. A. Foston conducted the service in the afternoon, and Mr G. Young, of Palmerston North, in the evening, while Aliss Jean Sinclair officiated at the organ, special harvest music being rendered. The _ sale of produce was hold on Alonday evening; Air G. Passey being in charge of tho sole, which realised a substantial sum, over £ll being placed to tho credit of the church funds.
