Torrential rain amounting to oyer 4£ inches fell in several areas during the 2-1 hours up to 9 o’clock this morning and caused heavy flooding in the Far North for the fourth time within tlm last three months, though of a. lesser extent and seriousness than on previous occasions. The severest effect was felt at Kaeo, which was completely isolated for the time being. A wide sweep of the Mangakaliia district is under nine feet of water and all other routes to the further north centres are impassable. South of WJiangarei the conditions are also bad in places, with eight feet of water on the road between Ta.ipuha and Mareretu. The deluge was accompanied by a violent north-east gale.
