MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The monthly meeting of the Slann-watu-Oroua Power Board was held yesterday, Mr C. G. C. Dormer being in the chair. Others present were Messrs N. Campbell, J. Boyce, 4V. McKay, W. P. Bickers, P. G. Guy, E. 0. Bond, J. Hodgens,, Jos. Batchelor, M. A. Eliott and J. A. Nash, M.P. Leave of absence was granted Mr CL McElroy. CORRESPONDENCE. The Public Trustee forwarded . a sinking fund deed, asking that it be executed.—Received. The Auckland School of Engineering wrote asking if the board would make the school a grant, the statement being being made that the Auckland University College had requested the raising of an endowment fund of £20,000. Indications had been given that if Auckland was prepared to help then the Government would assist. The Auckland City Council had promised £IOOO, the Auckland Power Board. £IOOO and the Auckland Transport Board £250 with possibly three • more likely amounts.—The letter was received, no action being taken, on the motion of Mr Eliott, who commented that any extra funds possessed by the board should be applied to reducing the rate to consumers.

The Feiying Chamber of Commerce forwarded thanks for the facilities for New Year and Christmas lighting.—The letter was received.

The Unemployment Board wrote acknowledging the receipt of the Power Board’s letter drawing attention to the scale of relief wages in the country. It was stated that if it was found practicable the wages of country workers would bo reviewed.—Received. GENERAL BUSINESS. A discussion took place on a recent conference of power boards and supply authorities at which a suggestion was received from the New Zealand Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association that a full-time secretariat should be appointed for the association. The board eventually decided to support the decision made by the regional conference at Wellington, that a part-time secretary be appointed. The engineer (Mr W. A. Waters) requested that authority be given for the purchase of four transformers from English manufacturers for use at Feilding, and certain materials to convert transformers at Feilding for use at Longburn. ‘ The new transformers had to be of a certain size to enable them to fit into the present platform, said the engineer, so that there would be a minimum of interruption and less expense, and the other items would give a fresh bank of transformers at Longburn at about- half the cost of a new lot. —The board gave the necessary authority, the engineer saying he wished to have the work at Feilding done before the winter and the Longburn work carried out ■ prior to the commencement of the meat killing season in November.
