MANAWATU HUNT

YEAR REVIEWED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Hunt, held on Friday evening at Palmerston North, attracted a good attendance from all parts of the district. The president (Mr W. AV. Andrews) was in the chair. Reference was made to the recent passing of Mr G. Shannon, of Newbury, who, with his famil.v, had for many years been an enthusiastic supporter of the hunt. A resolution of condolence was passed with the bereaved relatives.

Reporting upon the season’s activities, the chairman said they had been most successful and enjoyable. They were indebted to property owners for permission to use their land, and for their hospitality, in the Kiwitea, AA 7aituna, Cheltenham, Manakau, Oliau, Levin, and Otaki districts, and at the Kennels. There were good fields at both drag and hare hunts. The annual point-to-point steplechases were very successful, and well managed by the Levin branch. The cottage destroyed by fire at The Kennels had been replaced. “The annual race meeting, conducted by the Manawatu Racing Club on behaif of the hunt, again proved successful. The business of the meeting was carried out by Miss M. Buchanan, acting secretary of the Racing Club, with great ability and she is entitled to our hearty thanks,” stated the president. “Our treasurer, Mr L. H. Collinson, who has held the position for 18 years, was granted leave of absence for six months, to pay a visit to tho Old Country. Mr and Mrs Collinson and their two sons had an enjoyable trip. It gives me great pleasure to extend to them a most hearty welcome back and all our members will be delighted to see Mr Collinson back in the hunting field.” After recording regret at the passing of Mr Shannon, the master of the hunt (Mr D. A. Scott) reported that in the 1934 season it met on 25 days. It was gratifying to note the presence in tho Kiwitea district of new members, and of quite good fields generally. Huntsman AValler was to he congratulated on the entirely satisfactory manner in which he carried out his duties. To ensure a successful day’s sport, nothing seemed too much trouble to him. Thanks were extended by the master to property owners, the deputy master and the lion, whips for their co-operation, and he cordially welcomed hack "Mr Collinson after his visit to Britain.

“AA T e have 11J> pair of hounds and six pups, all in good fettle.” reported the Huntsman (Mr J. J. Waller). “The progeny of our imported hound Chorister (deceased) have shown their worth during the past few seasons. The kennels and outbuildings are in fair order, and the new house is everything to be desired.
