PLUNKET NURSING.
TRIBUTE BY MAYOR. In declaring open the children’s party arranged by the Palmerston North branch of the Plunket Society at the Empire Hall on Saturday the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford), said that some years ago New Zealand had had a high reputation for its social work, and the Plunket Society had continued through the years to help maintain that reputation. The Plunket Society had done wonderful- work right throughout New Zealand and particularly so did that' refer to Palmerston North, said the Mayor. The committee at this centre had worked energetically ever since the society had been instituted, and the movement had met with such wonderful success throughout New Zealand in connection with the lowering of infant mortality that the Plunket system was being copied by many other countries. Unfortunately, a lot of the good work done in the past would be discounted owing to the depression. The effects of the depression would be felt for some time and the longer the depression, the longer would those after effects be.
