SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP. MANAWATU CENTRE COMPETITION. Play in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s champion of champions singles competition, which is being decided on the two-life principle, was continued at the Northern Club’s green on Saturday afternoon. At the end of four rounds Kershaw (Terrace End) was the .only two-lifer, Tatere (Dannevirke), who had the bye in the third round, suffering defeat at the hands of the former in the fourth. Consequently players still in the competition with only one-life are Martin (Oroua), Bnry (Palmerston North) and Tatere. The final games will bo played at the Northern green at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday next. Additional details to those published in the “Standard” on Saturday are as follow ; 1 THIRD ROUND. Kershaw (Terrace End) 24 v. Morgan (Shannon) 11. Fenwick (Northern) 22 v. Ramsay (Feilding) 10. Martin (Oroua) 18 v. Cooksley (Takaro) 16. Bary (Palmerston North) 22 v. Forbes (Woodville) 10. FOURTH ROUND. Martin 18 v. Fenwick 15. Kershaw 24 v. Tatere 8. Bary 20 v. Morgan 16. NOTES ON THE PLAY. Bary always held the lead on Forbes in the third round, and, winning every head from the 15th to the 19th, where the game ended, won easily, recording two fours. Martin established an early lead on Cooksley and held it throughout. Fenwick had a very comfortable win over Ramsay, who could not get going, while Kershaw, who opened with a four, had no difficulty in accounting for Morgan, running up a considerable lead. over the latter stages.

Bary just got home against Morgan in the fourth round. The Palmerston North player led 15 —9 at the end of the 13th head, but Morgan then took four heads in a row to come on level terms. Six rinks from the Palmerston North Bowling Club journeyed to the Oroua green on Saturday afternoon, and after an enjoyable series of games won on the aggregate by 135 points to 101.

The visitors were met on their arrival by Mr S. D. Pearce, and on be half of the president (Mr C. Hausmann), who was unavoidably absent, he welcomed them to Oroua. Mr W. J. Croucher, president of the Palmerston North Club, replied on behalf of the visitors, thanking the home club for the welcome and assuring them that they always looked forward to visiting Oroua. Mr Croucher then presented Mr Pearce with the badge of the Palmerston North Club.
