Dir Bond’s report continued as follows: —“It will be noticed from the figures that the roads carrying the most motor traffic have already been bituminous surfaced. The next in order of motor traffic were : FeiklingAwahuri Road, Eongotea-Longburn. Himatangi-Sanson, Stewart’s Line and Rongotea-Rangiotu Road. Of the metalled surface highways HimatangiSanson was the only one to have a full 24 hour tally, the remainder being for 16 hours per clay only. No ta 1-1 lies were taken of the traffic on the Whirokino, Foxton-Shannon, Foxton beach or the Tangimoana highways. For purpose of comparison I have shown the result of the tally taken for a similar period from the 25th to the 31st August of last year, with the exception of the Rongotea-Rangiotu highway, and the Rongotea-Longburn highway, which have recently been declared main highways.” The figures in regard to the traffic on Stewart’s Line, it is indicated, give ample support for the contention raised during the visit of the Main Highways Board to Sanson and Feilding last December when, pointing out that this road carried a heavy volume of traffic to Feilding. both the Mnnawatu County Council and the Feilding Borough Council asked that consideration he given to the tar-seal-ing of it. It will l>c noticed that this stretch of road from the foot of Dlt. Stewart to its junction with the Feilding-Awalmri Road carries a daily average of 150 motor vehicles. The council read the figures of the tallies with interest. ,the chairman (Cr. AV. E. Barber) slating that they gave a close insight into the traffic on the roads.
