FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”! Leprechaun was omitted from the Ashhuivt acceptances, which further builds up tho splendid list for tho Anniversary Day fixture. Silver Paper broke down when doing a gaJlop on tho evo of the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting. K. Voitre and IT. N. Wiggins wdl be able to resume riding on the final (lay of the Wellington meeting. As n result of his trip to Australia and his period of suspension, Voitre has lost ground on the championship table. When Trivet won the Vincent Jubilee Cup she was steered by J. T. Mackie, who donned the colours for the second time in a rage. With two horsemen of the name of R. J. Mackie and now a J. T, Mackie, tho surname is becoming a common one. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club lias decided to apply for March 30 as an extra racing dato, using one of tho permits abandoned by the Poverty Bay Turf Club. The veteran Meadow Lark, who has been a prominent performer for some years in tho South Island, just failed to see out his races at the Vincent meeting. It is stated tliat ho retains hi« pace and is apparently keeping sound. The chestnut colt by Lord Warden from Michaela. has been withdrawn by his Southland breeder from the yearling sale. The youngster will eventually raco in Australia. There was produced at the Vincent meeting a big upstanding groy gelding, Grey Boy, who is a four-year-old by Rosenor from Yellow Manner, bv Mira. It is reported that Grey Boy showed pace. The Riverton Chip oT £SOO. Great Western Steeplechase of £4OO. Southern Champion Hack Handicap of £350, and the Easter Handicap, of £325, aro the star features of the Riverton Racing Club’s programme—big prizes for a country club. J. Fryer is getting together a strong team at Hnwera. He recently received tlireo additions to his team, Stanchion and Haunui having been recommissioned, while a half-brother to l’auluf (by . Tonbridge) has been put into aotivo training. Silver Lark, who won the final event at the Vincent meeting, is a four-year-old filly by Silverado from Larkaway, by Tractor —Killeney, by Kilbroney—Nithsevo, by Stepniak—Shepherdess, and so belongs to the same family as Windbag. The Hastings trainer W. G. Griffith is expected back from Melbourne shortly, but whether he will remain or not is uncertain. As lie is not bringing Lirnbohin back with him, it would appear as though lie contemplates an early return to Melbourne. The Awnpuni representatives, with a few exceptions, had their engagements continued at Ashlmrst. Round Score and Full Throttle were a pair who were nominated for both Ashhurst and Wellington, but whereas the former accepted for Trentham in preference, the latter reversed the proceedings. Originally there were some 30-odd maiden perforators entered for the Novice Handicap at Ashhurst, but when a division race apeared to be certain they fined down to 18 on acceptance night. Unless the safety number for the six furlongs post lias been increased —which is not unlikely since 6print runners aro now given a straight run along the back stretch —the number still exceeds the safety number by one. G. Jones, private trainer at Caulfield to Mr W. R. Kemball, who arrived in the Dominion on Tuesday, will take with him on his return six young horses for his patron. They aro five two-year-olds and a yearling. The two-year-olds are three colts and a filly by Cape Horn and a filly by Gainscourt. The yearling is a colt by Lord Quox from Princess Pat, the dam of Lady Pam. He is the likeliest of tho lot. The northern mentor E. Murtagh is making tho trip to Trentham with . Lucidus, who is engaged in the open sprint races. Lucidus performed in good style at the holiday meetings at Now Plymouth and Stratford, registering threo wins. He is in great heart at present and it should not bo for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently. However, ho is likely to find the opposition much stronger than he has met in his latest outings. The Te Aawarnutu trainer, A. Cook, is taking Galilee and Namakia to Trentham for the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting and ho . intends to leave with his charges beforo tho end of tho week. Galileo is to contest the Wellington Stakes, in which she will be ridden by L. J. Ellis. Namakia will be a competitor in the open sprint events and will bo piloted by Cook’s apprentice, G. Cameron, who has been riding very successfully lately. In close finishes there are always people who will argue that the judge is wrong, and it is a common thing to hear riders, who take part in a close finish, assert that they won. They, least of all, should argue, for they can only toll approximately when they go over tlie lino, and often it is a matter of inches only. In America they apparently do not allow the latitude that is permitted here. The Blood Horse says that at Pimlico, Maryland, in November, the crowd did not agree with the judge, and consequent on Workman, the jockey on the horse placed second, making some uncomplimentary remarks concerning the decision, he was fined £4O for “conduct detrimental to tho best interests of racing.” As Workman is one of America's, most prominent jockeys, tho stewards did not show themselves respecters of persons.
