YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED.

AIANAWATU WOMEN’S CLUB. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of "the Alanawatu Women’s Club, held in the tearooms of Alessrs Collinson and Cunninghame, Ltd., yesterday afternoon. The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford) presided, and w:«s the hostess, together with Mesdames L. H. Collinson and G. G. Hancox. Apologies for unavoidable absence were tendered on behalf of Alesdames J. H. Stevens, H. B. Bennett, Tapp, C. Aitchison, N. V. Ballinger, H. B. Freej O. S. Tyerman, A. E. Hansel, T. Fairbrother, and H. Sinclair. The report, presented by the committee, stated that fifteen new members were' enrolled daring the year, bringing the present membership to 110. Deep regret was expressed in recording the passing of Mrs J. Alounsey, who had been a member of the club for a number of years. The annual card afternoon was held on Alay 4, to raise funds for providing a hamper for the Porirua Mental Hospital, the sum of £5 being raised. The garments afternoon was held in June, the members contributing most generously with garments for the Plunket and district nurses. Thanks were expressed to all who had helped to make the afternoon so enjoyable and to the speakers for their interesting talks and addresses and demonstrations. The play ; reading circle, under the direction of Aliss Cranston, gave two delightful programmes, which were very much appreciated. Showing a satisfactory credit balance, the financial statement was submitted, and adopted with the report. Officers were elected as follow for the ensuing year:—President, Airs A. E. Alansford; honorary vice-president, Airs J. A. Nash; vice-presidents, Alesdames L. H. Collinson and Al. Aitchison ; secretary, Airs W. Coutts; committee, Mesdames Al. Spraggon, W. Royal, R. Al. Stubbs, S. Parkes, G. E. Stevens, A. AVilson, A. E. Hansel, and J. H. Nash. ’

Airs Alansford congratulated members on the wise selection of officers. The resignation of Airs Hancox from the position of vice-president was received with regret, appreciation of her former services being expressed. Aire Alansford returned thanks for her reelection, and conveyed thanks to the outgoing officers. Votes of thanks were accorded the following:—Mr AV. F. Goddard, m appreciation of his valuable assistance as honorary auditor; executive committee, Airs AA 7 . Coutts, for her splendid service a 9 secretary, to whom Airs Alansford, on behalf of members, presented a fountain pen in recognition of her work; Airs G. G. Hanoox, by Airs Coutts, for carrying out office during her absence; Alessrs Collinson and Cunninghame, for the use of the clubroom; Airs Coates and the staff, for their continued interest and courteous attention; the entertainers and speakers during the year; Airs Alansford, by Airs AV. Royal, for her fine work as president, Airs Coutts also expressing appreciation of the way in which Airs Alansford and committee had carried out office. It was decided that Aliss Al. Cranston, convener of the play-reading circle, and the secretary, attend executive meetings, and that the garment afternoon be continued. The following allocations were decided upon: • —Alayor’s Christmas Fund, £8 8s; Old People’s Home, £3 3s; Airs Coates and staff, £2 11s; making a. total of £l4 2s. A letter was received from the superintendent of the Porirua Alental Hospital, conveying thanks' for books sent by the club. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to the auditor. Vocal items by Airs Findlay and elocutionary items by Aliss Cranston, with Airs B. F. Barlow as accompanists, were much appreciated. Afternoon tea, with strawberries and cream, was a pleasant interlude in the proceedings. Seasonal greetings were conveyed to members by the Mayoress.
