MR HEARST SURPRISES.
COPIES BRITISH PAPERS. Mr William Randolph Hearst, leading newspaper proprietor in the United States and notorious until recent years for his antipathy to nearly all things British, has revealed another symptom of his newly-acquired predilection for them. Originator of the typical make-up of tho United States newspapers, lie has come back from England and ordered his newspapers to copy the style of some of the London newspapers. Other newspapers are aghast at tho change, as Mr Hearst has a paper in every large city, and claims to have 23,000,000 readers. Mr Hearst’s recent change of heart regarding England culminated in an interview, in which he said that'England was the only big country which had fearlessly battled with depression problems. She was an example, lie said, to the United States. His newspapers, referring to the tragic fire on the Morro Castle, observed that such things would be impossible on an English ship. His leader writer, Mr Brisbane, whom he proclaims to be “the greatest living thinker,” frequently acclaims the actions of British diplomatic, political and industrial leaders as worthy of emulation.
