LONGBURN.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBURN, Nov. 17.
A fitting termination to the year’s activities of tho Longburn Anglican Girls’ Club took place on Friday evening in the Parish Hall, when tho members held a breakup banquet. There was a good attendance of members and friends, Rev. F. O. Ball presiding. Tho time was passed pleasantly with games, competitions . and dancing. The following toast list was honoured: — “The King,” proposed by Mr Ball; “Tho Girls’ Club,” Mr Clare ShirrifTs —Miss IT. Hills; “The Lads,” proposed bv Mr Ball ■ —Mr F. Hearsay; “Old Girls and Absent Friends,” Miss J. Campbell. Items wore rendered by the following:—C. Shirriffs and W. Alderslcy, vocal duct; Miss J. Campbell, elocutionary item; Mr F. Hearsey and Mr J. Aldersely, vocal duet; Mr Ball, anecdotes; Misses IT. Hills and J. Shirriffs, .vocal duet; Mr B. Block, vocal solo. Dance music was supplied by Miss M. Pratt and Messrs C. Shirriffs and S. Rowland, Mr F. Hearsey making an efficient M.C. Mr Ball spoke in glowing terms of the "progress of the club and congratulated the members on the growing interest they had taken in the church work in tho district. Those present' wore: Misses B. Ball, IT. Hills, J. Shirriffs, J. Campbell, M. Fo s, L. and J. Hearsey, J. Hodgson, E. Bell, R. Stevcnsen, J. Wilson, B. Campbell, and Rev. F. 0. Ball, Messrs Shirriffs (2), Hearsey (2), Rowland (2), W. Johnston, B. Block, Stevenson (2), and D. Hawk.
Mrs Holder, of Turakina, is visiting Mrs Rowland.
Miss Joan Lockwood, of Napier, is the guest of Mrs J. Calleson, lvarerc Road. A jolly party was held at the home ,of Mr and Mrs W. Fletcher, Karere Road, on. Saturday, November 10, to celebrate the coming-ot-age of their eldest sen Jack. The time was spent in competitions and dancing, items being rendered by the following:—Mr A. Sundborn, steel guitar; Mr and Mrs W. Woodroofe, violin and pianoforte duet. Supper was served, a special feature being the handsome birthday cake (with its 21 candles; it was made and iced by Mrs Bateman, of Wanganui. Tho following toasts were honoured; “Mr J. Fletcher,” Mr Woodroofe—Mr Fletcher; “Mr and Mrs Fletcher,'’ Mr E. Jewell —Mr W. Fletcher suitably responding. The music was kindly!supplied by Mr R. Knight, art extra being played, by Mrs Woodroofe.
