SIX MONTHS’ FIGURES. “The net profit available tills year for the six months’ period, amounting to £5354, is £IBB less than the amount of £5542 for the corresponding period of last year, but the capital appropriations are £722 less,” reported the electrical engineer (Mr J. W. Muir) to the Palmerston North City Council last evening, in comparing the trading activities of the electrical department for the half year with the position at the same date last year. Summarised, lie added, the position was that results compared verv closely. “It is found,” commented the engineer, “that the revenue from the sale of light, heat, and power, etc., has declined to the extent of £9OO. This is due to the increase of 2} per cent, made in the discount given and to the reduction made in the commercial lighting charges. On the expenditure side the results compare as follow, last year’s figures being given in parentheses: Cost of generation, £2912 (£3505), a decrease of £593; gas producer plant, £1036 (£1657), a decrease of £621; cost of power purchased, £11,920 (£11,197), an increase of £723; total cost of power, £14,832 (£14,703), an increase of £129, making a cost of £2 5s 4d per 1000 units this year against £2 6s 5d per 1000 units last year.

“The total expenditure for generation and distribution amounts to £22,759 this year, against £22,535 last year, an increase of £224. The capital expenditure in 1934 was £1052 ns against £2774 for the same period in 1933. Repayment of the £IOOO loan debenture, which matured in June this year, was effected from revenuo.”
