PAHIATUA, Nov. 12.

Much success attended the first drama festival of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation of Women’s Institutes, held in Pahiatua on Friday and Saturday. Two halls were utilised and both were packed by members and the general public to witness a high-class presentation of plays, glee singing and folk dancing. On Saturday morning, in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Sunday Schoolroom, the drama section, a presentation of one-act plays, was continued, there being three in the morning and six in the afternoon. The awards were made as follow: —Konini (No. 2 team), “Old Lady Shows Her Medals,” 1 ; Pongaroa (No. 2 team), “My Herbert Says,” 2; Makomako (No. 1 team), “Merchant of Venice,” 3. In the Foresters’ Hall on Saturday evening tho folk dancing and glee singing competitions were held. The adjudicator in the folk dancing section was Miss J. Hume, of Palmerston North. The placiligs were made as follow: Tutaekara, “Gathering Peascods,” 1; Hamua, “Picking up Sticks,” 2; Pahiatua, “Hunsdan House,” 3. The glee-singing awards were made as under: —Woodville (No. I team), “My Oars are Plashing Lightly,” 1; Woodville (No. 2 team), “Night Hymn at Sea,” 2; Makomako (No. 1 team), “See My Oars With Feathered Spray” and Pahiatua, “Flowers in Spring,” equal, 3. Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, president of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation, congratulated the winning teams and apologised for the absence of Mrs H. Paterson, Dominion president, who is in Auckland at one of the annual council meetings. She also read greetings sent by the Northern Wellington and Southern Wellington Federations; Mrs Crewe asked Mrs J. D. Wilson (Mayoress) to present the trophies. The official closing day of the Pahiatua Golf Club was held in glorious weather. In accordance with the usual custom a mixed Canadian foursome was played. The results are as follow: Miss A. Boyd and S. Boyd, gross score 63, handicap 231, net score 39J, first; Miss F. Nelson and C. Wright, 73 —31 —42, second. A drive and approach competition for partners in the foursome, was won by Miss F. Badger and J. O’Sullivan.
