EXPORT LAMBS.

DISTRICT COMPETITION.

Although the entries have not been definitely closed for the district competition in export lambs which is being conducted by the Manawatu A. and P. Association, 30 breeders have intimated their intention to participate in the “field day” to be held at the Longburn works on Thursday. The competition is being conducted in conjunction with the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and other A. and P. Associations, and the winners of the various local competitions will participate later in a championship for the North Island.

The Manawatu entries will be judged in the pen at the Longburn works by Mr Iv. W. Deighton, of Marton, and they will then be killed and judged on the hooks by Mr J. Drysdale, of the Meat Board. They will be sent to Smitlifield, where the championship will be determined from the selected entries of the various districts. In addition to the district prizes, monetary allocations will be made by the N.Z. Meat Producers’ Board, £ls being awarded to the champion pen from each island, £lO for second and £5 for third, each individual pen consisting of three lambs. A perpetual challenge shield is also offered for the best display group of 15 pens of lambs. The Manawatu had the honour of winning the trophy in the first year it _ was offered and the local authorities are hopeful that this district will prove capable of recovering the North Island honours this year, Wairarapa having gained the award last season.
